Welcome to my blog! My name is Sandy, Sandy like the beach. And today is my 26th birthday.
I’ll start by saying that I’ve always had a passion for all things beauty/fashion/make-up related. So naturally, I also love talking about the things that I’m passionate about and sharing them. Over the last couple of years my interest in photography has grown and the more that I’ve traveled, the more I’ve felt the urge to capture all of my experiences and document them. That’s when blogging became an idea, the opportunity to share my adventures and style. Of course it can’t be that easy, and it’s pretty scary to put myself out there, but the more I thought about it I couldn’t help but feel that this was something that I needed to pursue. So, I decided that my 26th birthday was the year that I was going to stop saying “what if” and “well, maybe someday” because if there’s anything that I’ve learned during my professional career, it’s that no one is going to hand you anything. Nothing worth having in this life is easily attainable, and I’ve realized that through more than just my years spent working professionally in NYC. I’ve learned that through my amazing parents who came here from Portugal without speaking a lick of English with the hopes of creating better lives for themselves. But I’ll get to them in a later post. This post is about me, about the year that I stop saying “I’ll do that someday”, about my aspirations, this post is about stepping outside of my comfort zone and chasing (in heels, of course) one of my dreams.
In-between my work and personal life I hope to share on this blog a snippet of the things I adore and the life that I live. I hope to inspire many people the way that I have been inspired, to demonstrate how fun it can be to express yourself through fashion, how you can discover new things about yourself, and mostly importantly, how you can be yourself and feel good about it. “Look good feel good” is one of my favorite mottos. I feel damn good when I wear high heels and have a glass of Pinot Noir in my hand at a rooftop bar in NYC, but I also feel just as good at home in my pajamas, a bowl of popcorn, and Netflix playing The Vampire Diaries on repeat!
As for the name of my blog, that has a story of its own. When I was in college and introducing myself to people I had just met, most of the time it was in a club with very loud music. Whenever I would say “Nice to meet you, my name’s Sandy”, the person would come back with “Nice to meet you, Sammy” or “Nice to meet you, Sally.” Getting tired of people getting my name wrong, I started saying “Nice to meet you. My name is Sandy, Sandy like the beach.” And I guess that kind of stuck with me. So there you have it.
In today’s post I’m wearing an absolute stunning lace and sequin dress. When I first saw this dress I thought, this is how you stand out in a party. To me, this is the kind of dress that you would want to wear to your own party, whether it be your birthday party, a bridal shower, or graduation party. This dress screams elegance and has that really feminine look that makes you feel like a princess when you put it on. My ankle strap heels pair perfectly with this dress and are a staple for every girl’s shoe collection!
Lastly, before I wrap up my very first post, I couldn’t do it without thanking everyone (especially my very supportive boyfriend Jonathan) who constantly listened to me talk about how much I’ve always wanted to start my own fashion blog and encouraged me along the way.
I hope you visit my blog again for my next post and some more inspiration!
XO, Sandy
