It’s that time of year again, friends! The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is here and I’m going to break it all down for you and share my favorites, from things I own to things that are on my wishlist. I love covering this sale every year because it’s unique in that new items are marked down, so you get the opportunity to buy them at a discount before they go back up to full price for most of the season. I want to be the best resource for you guys, especially when it comes to navigating such a big sale like this one. My intention is never to overwhelm you with sales and material things, but if you are interested in shopping this sale then I want to share valuable content for you that’s helpful and gives you an easier, more enjoyable shopping experience. I’ll be sharing more content on my Shop LTK page so be sure to check that out too!
Nordstrom Sale Key Dates
Before I share my recommended items, let me first share more details on the Nordstrom sale for those that might not be as familiar. The sale opens to everyone on July 28 and runs through August 8. If you’re a Nordstrom cardmember then you get early access to the sale, and that date depends on your cardmember status (i.e. how much money you spend at Nordstrom annually).
The Nordstrom Card
To find out what your status is if you have a card, log in to your Nordstrom account and click on “The Nordy Club” tab on the left-hand side. If you don’t already have the Nordstrom card I wouldn’t recommend applying for one just for this sale. I would only get the card if you frequently shop at Nordstrom because just like every other credit card, there are benefits to using it. The more you use it the more points you earn that will eventually convert to Nordstrom Notes, which is essentially cash back. As a cardmember you also get to choose Personal Double Points Days, so you can earn double the points and in turn get more cash back. I would highly recommend setting your Personal Double Points Day to the day that you shop the sale so that you can earn money back on a future purchase.
What to Buy / Invest in
Closet Staples and Basics
For me personally, the things most worth buying during this sale are closet staples (i.e. jeans, basic t-shirts, leggings, jackets, etc), beauty items, and shoes. Basically, the items that you are going to wear and/or use over and over again for many years. For example, I bought my curling iron during this sale last year and it has been SO worth it because I’ve used it a thousand times since and it works really well. When it comes to closet staples, a good pair of jeans, a leather jacket, and a knit maxi dress are definitely up there. They’re pieces that you can style so many different ways and create many looks. I rounded up some of my favorites in the graphic below.
Beauty Products
Most things in the beauty category are worth buying, especially skincare and haircare. When I re-organized and cleaned out my bathroom cabinets the other day I realized how much more skincare I had than makeup products, and that’s because nowadays I’d much rather invest in and take care of my skin (as opposed to when I was younger and just wanted all the latest makeup products). So, whether there’s a skincare product that you’ve been meaning to try or one that you already have and will need a restock on eventually, those are the products worth buying while you can get them on sale. I rounded up the beauty products that I have and recommend that will be part of the sale in the graphic below.
Shoes
You guys, shoes are always my favorite category to buy from during this sale! All the big shoe brands release brand new styles that will be very popular during the fall and winter (think: Steve Madden, Converse, Ugg, Adidas, etc). It bums me out every year when after the sale ends and I get questions about a pair of boots that I’m wearing continuously throughout the season, because those people lost the opportunity to get them at a major discount and they end up buying at full price! Things can go on sale again at some point after this sale, but there’s no knowing when, and at that point it may be way later in the season.See my top shoe picks that are available in the sale this year in the graphic below.
Shackets
An item that I saw a lot of from different brands in this year’s sale are shirt jackets (or “shackets”), which were extremely popular last fall! There’s a shacket that I shared last year that ended up being one of my biggest sellers ever, so I’m not at all surprised to see that they’re back. They’re really easy to style and serve as a great layering piece. Needless to say, I love the trend, so I rounded up my favorites in the graphic below!
Cozy and Athleisure
Last but not least, another category that’s great to buy from during this sale is athleisure and cozy items like pajamas and slippers. Especially because of how the year 2020 went, athleisure and comfy joggers have become a big part of most our wardrobes. Whether you’re looking to refresh those pieces or just add to your collection, there’s a lot of good options on major sale and I rounded my favorites for you in the graphic below.
See below for some of my most worn pieces and how I style them throughout the season!
